“All the work from this period from 1983 to 1986 was unified by the democracy. “ (William Eggleston: Afterward from The Democratic Forest, 1988)
This exhibition introduces 17 images from William Eggleston’s Democratic Forest which was conceived as part of a much larger group of images, too many to be printed at the time or even published in the namesake book from 1989. This is the first time a grouping from this seminal period of Eggleston's production has ever been publicly exhibited. In keeping with the artist’s formal composition, the works depict everyday objects with place as their subject and clarity of vision.
A portion of proceeds from this exhibition to benefit the Cantor Center Acquisition Fund at Stanford University.
Featuring a selection of wines from Sotheby’s Wine retail store.
