On Saturday 6 December 2014 our sale of The Magnificent Cellar of Dr. Ed Planz Verticals and Large Format Direct from Paul Jaboulet Aîné & Finest and Rarest Wines brought a total of $4,436,781, comfortably exceeding the pre-sale estimate of $2.8/4 Million with 95% of lots sold. The sale was led by an outstanding selection of wines assembled by Dr. Ed Planz, a key member of the wine scene in the American south who assembled a connoisseur’s collection including a wide range of rare Burgundy much of which sold for many multiples of the high estimate. In addition, the sale saw outstanding prices for offerings direct from producers in both the Rhône and California including Paul Jaboulet Aîné.

The Magnificent Cellar of Dr. Ed Planz leads off the December 6 sale with an incredible collection of Red and White Burgundy including 1990 Chambertin from Rousseau in magnums, rare verticals of Hermitage La Chapelle direct from Paul Jaboulet Aîné including a 34 bottle vertical of La Chapelle 1961-2012, a rare 18 double magnum vertical of Peter Michael Les Pavots 1994-2011, and the largest offering of Sine Qua Non ever to appear at Sotheby’s including three of the rarest bottlings: 1994 Ace of Spades Syrah, 2000 Heals over Head Syrah, 2002 Heart Chorea Syrah.
