Highlights include Fang Lijun’s seminal Series 1 No.4, Cai Guo-Qiang's Two Lions – a monumental gunpowder work on six panels – the large-scale triptych February Stories-Past (Bed) by the young artist Jia Aili and Liu Wei’s Revolution Family Series: Dad with Mum of 1991.
Exceptional works from Fang Lijun’s early career are rarely seen on the market. Composed in black and white and featuring the bald headed figures that later gained the artist great acclaim abroad, Series 1 No.4 is one of the most important works from the Cynical Realism movement of the 1990s. This work is joined by another from Liu Wei, one of the movement’s pioneering artists. Revolution Family Series: Dad with Mum from 1991 is an extremely rare representation of the artist’s early style, which is marked by expressive and exaggerated brushstrokes, a vibrant colour palette and semi-realist composition.
