The Contemporary Art Day Auction on 18 October 2013 achieved a total of £11,958,500 including works sold to benefit the Mimi Foundation: The Power of Love. Highlights included Takashi Murakami's In the Heart's Eye, a Universe which sold for £482,500, Andy Warhol's Flowers which achieved £308,500 and Bridget Riley’s Dark Light which totalled £302,500.
In anticipation of Frieze and Frieze Masters this autumn, the October Day sale boasts an array of works at the cutting edge of contemporary art. Highlights include a Guyton\Walker collaboration while works by Hugh Scott-Douglas, Oliver Laric, Angel Otero and Theaster Gates join those by Takashi Murakami, Anish Kapoor, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol. A rare group of early Richter photographs provide a fascinating insight into the celebrated artist’s formative practice whilst a special section of the sale features an extraordinary compendium of works being sold to benefit the Mimi Foundation. Donated by a roll-call of leading artists, the sale of these works will directly fund the Foundation’s UK expansion in support of those undergoing treatment for cancer. We are also delighted to include 12 eclectic works from the collection of the late Stanley J. Seeger. This group, which features examples by Jean Dubuffet and Jӧrg Immendorf through to Takashi Murakami, showcases the remarkable breadth and diversity of Seeger’s imaginative vision.
