This lot is sold with a letter from Florian Leonhard, London, dated 1st November 2011 stating that ,in his opinion, the violin is a late 19th Century, Central to Northern Italian instrument.
The estimate for this lot should be Â£16,000 - Â£18,000.
This lot has endangered species; there is an elephant ivory fragment on the top saddle.
Sold with the certificate of Emil Herrmann, New York, 2nd May 1955, made out to the collector and cellist Gerald Felix Warburg stating the violin is 'a fine and characteristic example of the grand pattern and tonally outstanding'.
