Sotheby's is delighted to offer a fine selection of English Furniture, Silver, Ceramics and Chinese export porcelain in A Celebration of the English Country House to be held on April 15th. The sale includes a number of works by some of the great English cabinet-makers of the 18th century including William Hallett, William Vile, Mayhew and Ince, and Seddon, Sons & Shackleton. Other pieces of interest include a Palladian fireplace surround of monumental size commissioned by John Fuller for Rosehill, Sussex, a fine and rare Chinese export reverse painted mirror depicting Qing officials and an important green japanned desk-and-bookcase in the manner of John Belchier. Sotheby's is also pleased to offer a selection of important early English silver from the Estate of Richard George Meech, Q.C. (lots 302-308), including works by Paul de Lamerie (lots 302-303), a Charles II Treasury Inkstand (lot 305) and a Charles II Two-handled Bowl and Cover (lot 308).
