The second part of the Pierre Bergé library, which will be auctioned at the beginning of November, is devoted to 19th century literature. The 376 lots encompass the pre-Romantics, Gothic novels and the Marquis de Sade, the European Romantic Movement, Pierre Bergé’s favourite author Gustave Flaubert and the Modernists. The sale also includes important first editions of works by philosophers including Kierkegaard, Karl Marx and Nietzsche. There will be an opportunity to view highlights in the Book Room at Sotheby’s New Bond Street from 27 to 30 October. The collection will be then on view in Paris at Drouot-Richelieu from 4 to 7 November. The auction will take place at Drouot-Richelieu, 9 rue Drouot, 75009 Paris on 8 and 9 November.
