Sotheby’s Important Design sale presents a highly curated selection of European and American design, showing the stylistic evolution from prewar to contemporary. Leading the sale is an extraordinary collection of Venetian Glass from an Important American Collection. Comprising over 60 works, this encyclopedic group assembled in the early 1990s features many rare pieces by glass masters Fulvio Bianconi, Paolo Venini and Carlo Scarpa. Sotheby’s is also delighted to present two distinguished collections focused on the favrile glass and leaded glass lighting by Tiffany Studios, highlighted by a magnificent, richly saturated “Peony” Table Lamp. Also on offer are masterpieces of French Art Deco by such artists as Alberto Giacometti, Jean Dunand and René Lalique, as well as a historic collection of works by Robsjohn-Gibbings for the famous Casa Encantada commission. The sale also presents a strong selection of American Studio design by Paul Evans, Harry Bertoia and George Nakashima, as well as many iconic works by François-Xavier and Claude Lalanne.
