RESULTS
The collections of the late Comte de Paris (1908-1999) and Comtesse de Paris (1911-2003) were offered at auction on 29 and 30 September and achieved magnificent results, with a total of €6.2 million ($7 million). The fierce competition included collectors from 22 countries, alongside France’s most prestigious museums, not least the Palace of Versailles and the Louvre.
The auction saw 15 preemptions by major French museums and four new world auction records, for Carmontelle, Nicolas-Bernard Lépicié, Joseph Nash and for a breakfast set in Sèvres porcelain. Les gentilshommes du duc d’Orléans portant l’habit de Saint-Cloud by Louis Carrogis, aka Carmontelle was the highest-selling item in the sale, soaring to €531,000($595,209) – a new world record for the artist. A lavish breakfast set in Sèvres porcelain, known as the "Chasses Diverses" tripled its pre-sale high estimate of €150,000 to set a new world record of €495,000 ($554,855).

Sotheby’s is delighted to announce the sale of works from the collections of the late Comte de Paris (1908-1999) and Comtesse de Paris (1911-2003) in Paris on 29 and 30 September. Bringing to life the most illustrious members of the French Royal family, this assortment of circa 230 lots consists of paintings, drawings, furniture and mementos.
The auction contains some genuine masterpieces from leading artists of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, such as Les gentilshommes du duc d’Orléans portant l’habit de Saint-Cloud by the painter and interior designer Louis Carrogis, called Carmontelle, but also a nursery scene representing Louis-Philippe, duc de Valois, au berceau, painted in 1774 by the royal portraitist Nicolas Bernard Lépicié. Also noteworthy are the portrait of the Duc de Chartres tenant un cerceau, painted by Horace Vernet in 1821, and the beautiful portrait of the future Princess of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha by Jean-Baptiste Joseph Duchesne.
Lovers of fine furniture will appreciate a children’s drawing table designed by cabinetmaker David Roentgen, and the lavish Sèvres porcelain breakfast set, known as the "Chasses Diverses", presented to Queen Marie-Amélie on 21 May 1840. In addition, exceptional historical mementoes will be displayed, such as two collars and badges in gold and enamels of the Order of the Saint-Esprit and other decorations.
