Biography

His literary background, his knowledge of Surrealism and interest for Contemporary art make Thomas Bompard one of the most preeminent and original French experts in the international art market. He has been recognised by Apollo magazine in the 40 under 40 section as one of the ten most influential experts of his generation in the art world business in Europe.

Mr Bompard began his career in March 2001 in the Books and Manuscripts department at Sotheby’s France. In June 2008, he joined the Impressionist & Modern Art Department of Sotheby’s France which he ran from 2011 to 2013. Over these three years, Sotheby's placed itself in the undisputed leadership position in the market for Impressionist and Modern art, establishing world record prices for works by André Masson, Man Ray and Antonin Artaud. Mr Bompard played a crucial role in the success of the Tresors du coffre Vollard sale, and the sales of the collections of André Level, Florence Loeb, Zaira Mis, and the sale of Amedeo Modigliani's Portrait de Roger Dutilleul. He became an independent dealer in 2014, successfully participating in the largest European art fairs. He rejoined the Impressionist and Modern Art Department at Sotheby's in London as Senior International Specialist in September 2015.
