Robert Sleigh is a Managing Director based in Sotheby’s Hong Kong offices, responsible for Operations as well as the specialist auction departments of Watches and Wine.
Since moving to Hong Kong in 2010 as Head of Sotheby’s Wine, Asia he played a leading role in expanding Sotheby’s Wine business throughout the region and helped launch Sotheby’s retail wine business in Hong Kong in September 2014. Sotheby’s Hong Kong sold over US$ 280 million in wine at auction since 2010.
Prior to moving to Hong Kong, Robert joined Sotheby’s New York in 1996, where he was Head of the New York Wine Department. He is also an auctioneer for Sotheby’s Wine and Watch auctions in Hong Kong as well as multiple charity auctions throughout Asia. He sold the most expensive wine lot ever, the 114 bottle Romanée Conti Superlot, US$ 1.6 million (HK$ 12.6M) in October 2014 and was also responsible for auctioning the most expensive bottle of whisky ever sold, The Macallan “M” Lalique Decanter, US$ 628,205 (HK$ 4.9M) in January 2014 as well as the most expensive whisky lot ever sold, The Macallan in Lalique Legacy Collection, which achieved US$ 990,000 (HK$ 7.7 million) in April 2017.
