Dr Mara Hofmann, Head of Medieval and Renaissance Manuscripts, joined Sotheby's in 2013. She is a scholar of international standing in the fields of Medieval and Renaissance painting and manuscript illumination and has published and lectured extensively on those subjects in English, French, German and Italian. Between 2005 and 2013, she held research positions in London at the British Library, the National Gallery and the Warburg Institute.
Dr Hofmann completed her PHD thesis on French Renaissance manuscript illumination at the Free University of Berlin in 2002 and received a Humboldt Post-doctoral Fellowship to pursue manuscript studies at the Institut de recherche et d'histoire des textes in Paris in 2003-04.
