Biography

Jean Fritts joined Sotheby’s in 1992 and has worked with clients around the world since her arrival. She and her team are keenly aware of the most qualified buyers in this market and offer clients the finest in scholarly evaluation at all levels. Ms Fritts’ frequent travel in Europe and throughout the United States puts her in particularly close touch with the changing trends in this field. Since her arrival, Sotheby’s sales of African & Oceanic Art have quintupled.

Ms Fritts has been directly involved in the most important single-owner African & Oceanic Art collections that have appeared at auction and have achieved the greatest number of record prices for African & Oceanic Works of Art. Most recently, Ms Fritts played an instrumental role in the development of the African & Oceanic Art market in Paris.

Prior to joining Sotheby’s, Ms Fritts was affiliated with the National Museum of African Art of the Smithsonian Institution.
