Elisabeth Banfield joined Sotheby’s in 2014, having gained experience in the sculpture departments of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Nuremberg, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Wallace Collection, London. She holds degrees in Classics from the University of Cambridge and History of Art from the University of Oxford, with a Master’s thesis on Giovanni Pisano’s Pisa Cathedral pulpit. At Sotheby’s Elisabeth has worked on several notable sales, including Bernheimer and The Winter Collection. With a particular focus on medieval and Renaissance sculpture, she travels regularly in continental Europe. Elisabeth has published on the subject of Renaissance plaquettes.
