Biography

Brice began his career in the art world in 1992, and since 1993 has worked as a specialist in French and Continental furniture, with particular expertise in 18th century French furniture. After working at Christie’s in London and Paris, Brice joined Sotheby’s in 1997 and was involved in the early important collections and furniture sales in Monaco and Paris, with 1999 in particular being the pivotal year which introduced the opening up of the French art market and above all the significant sale of the collection of Château de Groussay, where Sotheby’s was able to consolidate its international influence in France and open up new horizons. Brice was instrumental in the success of The Laura Collection, the first single-owner sale by an international auction house to be conducted at Sotheby’s in Paris.

As Senior Director and Senior International specialist, Brice continues to work closely with the global team which he believes is highly attentive to the needs of clients who place their trust in Sotheby’s. He has been involved in the numerous important collections in Paris and across Europe, London and New York, amongst others the collections of, Léon Levy, Baron de Redé, Lily & Edmond J. Safra, Dimitri Mavrommatis, and the numerous Treasures sales.

He is a qualified auctioneer and directed the first session of the successful 2015 sale of the Dillée Collection.

Brice has always been passionate about the crucial link between research and expertise and one of his personal discoveries was the identification of a large Louis XV ormolu mounted celadon vase, which was given to Machault d’Arnouville by Madame de Pompadour. Another discovery by him was an extraordinary oval-shaped commode by André-Charles Boulle. After completing his research, Brice co-ordinated the sale of the commode and as auctioneer, brought the hammer down on this remarkable discovery.
