Biography

Anne Heilbronn inaugurated her career in the book market in 1992 at Giraud-Badin, preparing and writing catalogues for numerous public sales. She joined Sotheby’s in 1997. After spending a few months in the Books and Manuscripts department at Sotheby’s London, she joined the team at Sotheby’s Paris, then directed by Jean-Baptiste de Proyart. As an expert in the Books and Manuscripts department, she participated in and organized the important sale of several collections in London, including the second Ortiz Patiño sale in 1998, the Renaud Gillet sale in 1999 and the sale of the 1 ¢ Books collection in 2001.

Since the launch of the market in Paris, she has participated in the sale of the library of Charles Hayoit, Gwenn-Aël Bolloré, Pierre Leroy and Francis Pottié-Sperry. All these sales were crowned with success and the Sotheby’s team broke several world records from the late 80s. In September 2004, she became director of the Books and Manuscripts department at Sotheby’s France.

Since then, she has been personally responsible for the success of many important collections, including Fred Feinsilber, Temple de Rougemont, Marcel de Merre, Pierre Leroy, the sale of the Manifeste du Surréalisme manuscript, the “Rome et l’Italie”, “Verlaine, Rimbaud, Mallarmé et leurs amis”, “R and BL”, “Bibliothèque des Ducs de Luynes au château de Dampierre”, “Raoul Simonson & Albert and Monique Kies”, “De la Bibliothèque de Stéphane Mallarmé”, Marcel Proust from his family, the library of Ribes collection, Jorge Ortiz Linares and recently of the duchess de Berry from Hubert Guerrand-Hermès collection. She helped in the organization of the Bibliothèque de Pierre Bergé sale in association with Pierre Bergé et Associés auction house.In 2011, she was appointed Vice-President of Sotheby's France. She has also been President of the Prix littéraire de Trouville - Pavillon Augustine since 2016, a member of the jury for the Prix littéraire Céleste Albaret, and Deputy Secretary General of the Société des Amis de Marcel Proust and a member of the Cercle des mécènes de la Bibliothèque nationale de France. She was named Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur on 14 July 2015 and awarded the insignia in September 2016.
