Two exceptional jewels of extraordinary historical importance from the Russian Imperial Court will light up Sotheby’s Geneva on 16 November. The first, belonging to the wife of Peter the Great, is linked with ending a war in 1711. The second, from the late 18th century, is thought to have been part of the collection of Catherine the Great whose jewellery collection has never been equalled in Russia since.
