Highlights of the Modern and Contemporary South Asian Sale

Sotheby’s upcoming auction of Modern and Contemporary South Asian Art in London will cater to the continued demand for good-quality artworks with a notable provenance, featuring an exciting and diverse selection of paintings, drawings and sculpture.

The sale will be led by a beautiful and rare self-portrait of Amrita Sher-Gil. Additional highlights include a sublime cubist rendering of a thunderstorm titled Intangible Menace by Jehangir Sabavala, coming from the collection of Vijaya Lakshmi Nehru Pandit; a large scale depiction of Indian civilisations by Maqbool Fida Husain titled The Sixth Seal, previously from the collection of Chester and Davida Herwitz, along with magnificent paintings by the Bengali masters - Jogen Chowdhury and Gaganendranath Tagore. All artworks will be on view at Sotheby’s New Bond Street from Friday 2 October until Monday 5 October in advance of the auction.
