  Attributed to the workshop of Jean-Baptiste Regnault, Portrait of Caroline Bonaparte, Queen of Naples and of the Two Sicilies.
  Estimate €70,000–100,000.

  The youngest sister of Napoléon Bonaparte, Maria-Annunziata-Caroline, marries Joachim Murat in 1800. In 1806, they are made Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Berg and Kleve. Two years later, the couple is placed on the throne of Naples and the Two Sicilies. This composition has always been considered by family tradition as by Baron Gérard and studio. However, Alain Latreille, specialist of the artist’s work, would rather see another hand, perhaps Regnault.

  This painting is one of the four canvases commissioned by Pietro Edwards to Francesco Guardi. They depict the main events from Pope Pius VI’s visit to the Serenissima between May 15th and 19th, 1782.
