  Onyx and diamond ring, ‘Panthere’, Cartier .

  Cartier's distinctive 'panther-skin' motif of onyx spots against a diamond background made its first appearance in 1914 on a wristwatch. Three years later the representation of the entire animal appeared on a vanity case but it was only in 1948 that the first three-dimensional panther jewel was created for the Duchess of Windsor. Declined as necklaces, brooches, rings and bracelets, this wild, powerful but graceful cat has remained in Cartier's repertoire  ever since. This ring revives the firm's original pattern of onyx black spots against a pave' of brilliant-cut diamonds.
