  The House of the Faun was one of the largest and most impressive private residences in Pompeii, Italy, and housed many important works of art.   Francis Frith (1822-1898). The Hypaethral Temple, Egypt [c.1856], part of a group of 10 photographs.
  Estimate: £20,000–30,000.

  Frith took "The Hypaethral Temple" between September 1856 and July 1857, during his first trip to Egypt. Making the negative for this print was especially difficult given the intense heat, dust, and flies of the Middle East, because the collodion-coated glass plates had to remain wet during exposure and processing. The temperature inside Frith’s traveling dark-room tent, which is visible on the boat in the photograph, often rose above 110 degrees.

  Photochrom Zürich. Jerusalem, the Temple Mount and Dome of the Rock, part of a collection of over 500 photographs of Jerusalem and the Holy Land.
  Estimate: £30,000–50,000.

  An early coloured photograph of Jerusalem. Twenty years after the creation of the first photographic image, a Swiss printer named Orell Fussli developed photochrom. Unlike colour photography that captures the object's original colours, photochrom colorised black-and-white photographs.   Frederick Vavasour McConnell. Natives of Guiana, one of 35 lantern slides of people and views [c.1900]
  Estimate: £800–1200.

  McConnell spent some years in British Guiana and was deeply interested in the country, its people and especially its ornithology.   Randolph Bezant Holmes. Waziristan, North-West Frontier of India, one of 52 photographs[c.1920]
  Estimate: £2,000–3,000.

  Holmes (1888-1973), a professional and military photographer and amateur artist who took over the business established by his father, William D. Homes in Peshawar.   E.E. Rittenhouse (1861-1920). The first locomotive in Korea, from an album of 211 photographs of Japan and Korea (1898-99)
  Estimate: £4,000–6,000.

  Elmer Rittenhouse (1861-1920) played a significant role in the construction of Korea's Seoul-Chemulpo railway, where he worked from January 1898 to January 1899. The photographs include the workers and managers responsible for the construction of the railway, at work and at leisure, together with scenes of everyday life in Korea, including modes of transport, farming, military scenes, images of Korean children, punishments, views of Seoul and the palace, members of the Imperial family and court of Korea, costume for various occasions and employments, 'the Queen's funeral', street scenes, and temples.
