Anyone who thinks Bordeaux lovers are a fusty bunch would have had their expectations adjusted last night when Sotheby's welcomed a lively sold-out crowd to the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux's annual tasting event. To the electronic beats of DJ duo You&Me, nearly 100 top winemakers poured their 2010 and 2013 vintages and debated the finer points of each with enthusiastic tasters (an unscientific survey indicates 2010s were favoured but the ’13s had ardent fans). Local chefs – all alumni of the Careers through Culinary Arts Program – prepared Latin and French-inflected cuisine such as carne asada tacos with truffle mole that also paired beautifully with Champagne provided by Ruinart. Highlight: a blind tasting, where six savvy winners named the correct appelation and took a bottle of the vintage home. Wines from the evening are available at Sotheby's Wine Retail. Enquiries
