Robert de Balkany, A Passion for Timepieces

Over more than fifty years, passionate and exacting collector Robert de Balkany assembled an exceptional ensemble of paintings and decorative art to adorn the stunning Interiors of the Hôtel de Feuquières, his home on the Rue de Varenne in Paris. His greatest passion was undoubtedly reserved for timepieces. He was fascinated by the variety of craftsmen involved in the complex construction of a clock, from the clockmaker to the cabinetmaker, and also by the enduring character of an object that could function perfectly centuries after its creation. His collection contains approximately 90 clocks, which brilliantly illustrate the history of clock making in Europe from the 16th to the 19th century. Click ahead to see some of the highlights.
