RM Sotheby's Paris Mille Miglia Contenders

The Mille Miglia began in the 1920s as an endurance race crisscrossing the Italian countryside. Approximately 1,000 miles of public roads, closed specifically for the event, made up the figure-8-shaped "track." The cars were built for long stretches of unpredictable conditions, and the race featured drivers of all skill levels. After safety concerns led to the end of the series, the competition was reborn two decades later as the Mille Miglia Storica, an annual rally through a similar course featuring only cars that would have raced in the first iteration. The regulations now dictated that at least one specimen of your car must have raced or registered to race in the original series (1927–1957) which made the event extremely exclusive to enter.
