Ahead of the record-breaking sale of Picasso’s Femme assise and Amedeo Modigliani’s Jeanne Hébuterne (au foulard), Sotheby’s Global Co-Head of Impressionist and Modern Art, Helena Newman, discussed the two works with art historian and Picasso specialist Dr Marilyn McCully. The fascinating talk, in front of an invited audience, covered many aspects of the paintings including how the two works were informed by other art forms such as sculpture, as well as the relationship between the artists, who shared many mutual friends in Paris. The discussion was followed by a lavish cocktail reception at Sotheby’s on Bond Street. Click ahead to see highlights from the evening.
