Indian art was in the spotlight on Monday evening at Sotheby’s where Anu Ghosh-Mazumdar, Yamini Mehta and Priyanka Mathew hosted a reception and dinner honouring The Met Breuer’s forthcoming Nasreen Mohamedi exhibition. Among the guests were the Met’s Brinda Kumar and collector Kiran Nadar, whose private museum in Delhi first presented the Mohamedi show. Also celebrated was the publication of a new monograph, VS Gaitonde, Sonata of Solitude by Jesal Thacker, who discussed the connection between the two artists; they met in the 1960s, when they had neighbouring studios. “Gai was Nasreen’s mentor, but they had a mutual influence over each other,” said Thacker. “It was an exchange of ideas.” Works by both Gaitonde and Mohamedi feature in the 15 March sale of Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art.
