Russian-born Natalia Goncharova was an avant-garde painter who also dabbled in interior design, but she is perhaps best known for her groundbreaking costume and set designs, frequently collaborating with Sergei Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes. More than 250 works on paper formerly in the collection of the Lefebvre-Foinet Family will come to auction this autumn, providing a comprehensive overview of the career of one of Russia's most important modern artists.
For the exhibition at Sotheby's London, artist Oisin Byrne re-imagined Goncharova's works to celebrate these iconic designs for the Ballets Russes.
