Magnificent Jewels produce glimmering results in Geneva.
GENEVA – Another exceptional sale of Magnificent Jewels in Geneva brought the yearly total to an outstanding $193 million. An exceptionally rare 10.48 Carat Fancy Deep Blue Briolette Diamond realized $10.9 million, setting a new auction record price per carat for a deep blue diamond, and a record for a briolette diamond. The stone sold to jeweler Laurence Graff amidst intense bidding from several continents.
Jewels of royal and noble provenance continued their success this year as Queen Victoria Eugenia of Spain’s Cartier Bracelet sold for $3.5 million. David Bennett, Chairman of Sotheby’s Jewellery Department in Europe and the Middle East, called the bracelet “not only one of the greatest of Cartier’s creations, but also… one of the most important jewels of the last century.”
