GENEVA- The world of watches is becoming ever so slightly more like the hectic fashion universe, in that a calendar that was once dominated by a single annual event – the Baselworld fair, in March – has become more diffuse. This is not to say that watches are now subject to the tyranny of multiple fashion weeks in different cities and numerous “seasons,” but the horological calendar is certainly more crowded than it was 25 years ago when the first Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) took place in Geneva. What is more, this duo became a trio in 2013 with the addition of a third fair called Watches and Wonders, held in Hong Kong in the autumn. As the watch industry has almost become fully seasonal, with a winter and spring fairs in Switzerland and the autumn event in Asia, it is difficult to get an entire perspective on the industry in one place.
