Photographer Thomas Demand Will Talk Art and Fake News at Sotheby’s

By Sotheby’s

T he Octavian Report  is a quarterly publication “for leaders, by leaders” devoted to fighting misinformation by providing global expertise in a range of topics, from finance to physics. For its winter edition Octavian has collaborated with German artist Thomas Demand, who selected the issue’s imagery from his own work. For his innovative practice, Demand uses coloured paper to create landscapes, still lifes and interiors which he then photographs. Simulating reality, Demand’s work grapples with how the media presents politics, money, history and culture. On Wednesday 14 February, Demand will lead a conversation titled “Art, Reality, and Fake News” at Sotheby’s New York from 6–8pm. This intimate talk will be followed by a Q&A. The talk marks the return of The Octavian Report to Sotheby’s, which last autumn hosted the inaugural Octavian Forum, an event that brought together top innovators from the worlds of finance, art, education, media, politics, foreign policy and entertainment for panels on a range of topics. Conceived by hedge-fund founder and Octavian Report publisher Richard Hurowitz, the Forum served as a live version of the magazine, which has attracted a roster of influential contributors in the three years since its founding.
