LONDON - Just how often do you get Tracey Emin, Bill Woodrow and Grayson Perry in the same room? Or the chance to snap up works by some of the most exciting, emerging contemporary artists for a few hundred pounds? I would say roughly once a year, and yes, that time has rolled Around again as the artists gather for the Annual RA Schools Dinner and Auction, in aid of the RA School.
Grayson Perry RA’s Look How Generous and Talented Grayson Perry, CBE, RA, is!!, 2014. Elected RA: 15 March 2011.
I was lucky enough to have a sneak-preview of some of the works included and that are now on display in the galleries of Sotheby’s London – the wonderful Eddie Peake Fashion Work XXI grabbed my eye – in the Keeper’s Room at the RA (just up the stairs from their fabulous new café, which is definitely worth a look if you’re there), and must admit that this year’s selection is among the best that I have ever seen!
Eddie Peake’s Fashion Work XXI 2010. Peake graduated from the Royal Academy Schools in 2013.
The works have been available to view online since 11 March, which is when the live bidding starts for works including British heavyweight Ken Howard RA’s View of San Marco and Vision, an eye-catching work by recent graduate Charlie Billingham. Absentee bids can also be made on the Live Auction lots before the event, where you will have a chance to bid for exciting pieces by the likes of Ai Weiwei, Hon RA and Conrad Shawcross RA Elect. This year also marks the very special addition to the Silent Auction – a chance to bid on one of a dozen beautifully decorated eggs designed by fellow Royal Academicians including Eileen Cooper RA, Ron Arad RD and Chris Orr RA – far more exciting than any chocolate egg you could lay your hands on…
Conrad Shawcross RA’s From That Which It Came (Two) , 2012. Elected RA: 30 May 2013.
These exciting works will all go on view at Sotheby’s New Bond Street from 18 March, ahead of the auction at the RA on 25 March, and for more details and information regarding the auction please contact Deborah Rawlings on +44 (0)207 300 5702 or firstname.lastname@example.org
