LONDON – It’s wonderful to welcome Michael Howard, one of the leading authorities on Lowry, to Sotheby’s galleries In New Bond Street on Sunday 23 March. Author of Lowry: A Visionary Artist, Michael will discuss the works by the artist we are selling from The A. J. Thompson Collection.

Aside from being Senior Lecturer in History of Art and Design at Manchester School of Art, and a leading academic on artists including Monet and Van Gogh, Michael is also a practising artist, sculptor, printmaker and ceramicist. Yet it is the work of L.S. Lowry that remains Michael’s true passion

Michael has curated exhibitions dedicated to the artist, including Exploding Paintings – Lowry’s Industrial Landscape of 1953 at the Lowry in Manchester in 2007–08, and written essays for numerous catalogues, including, most recently, Nottingham University’s Lakeside Gallery show in 2012.

I’m so looking forward to hearing Michael’s thoughts on these important works by one of Britain’s best-loved artist. The talk begins at 2 pm – please email lowry@sothebys.com to reserve your place. See you there!
