HONG KONG – After our record-breaking sale of the Dr. S. Y. Yip Collection of Ming Furniture in 2015, Sotheby’s is most honoured to present another superb private collection of rare Ming furniture at our forthcoming auction in April. The collection features eight outstanding furniture pieces and ten table-top pieces.

The owner of this private collection studied fine arts in his youth and later took a keen interest in the connoisseurship and history of Chinese furniture. His taste and standard were extremely high. Every piece of furniture illustrated in this book demonstrates exquisite aesthetics and craftsmanship. Rarer still, most of the pieces have been widely published, and their quality rivals similar pieces in some of the world’s greatest museums.

There are other similarities between the present collection and the Dr. S.Y. Yip Collection. Each piece in this collection is an outstanding example of its kind, and every item was purchased from the gallery of Grace Wu Bruce who is revered as “the Queen of Huanghuali” in the world of Chinese furniture. The expertise and professionalism of Grace are reflected in the museum quality of each and every piece of furniture in this collection.

Rare and high-quality Ming furniture has long been an important and refined collecting category for sophisticated collectors of fine Chinese works of art. Sotheby’s is delighted to be entrusted with this outstanding collection for our spring auction in April 2016.
