HONG KONG - As the art world braces itself for Art Basel Hong Kong this coming Friday, every gallery in town is staging their biggest show of the year. Sotheby’s, as the first auction house in this international city, is also staging three exhibitions of its own: Avant-Garde Asia, a selling exhibition that investigates art after the liberation of Japan and Korea, auction highlights at Sotheby’s fifth floor gallery and the not-to-be-missed exhibition The Artist’s Palette on view at the Pacific Place shopping mall.

The Artist’s Palette tells the story of how the artists express their visual world via colours. It reveals much about an artist’s sentiment, identity, nationality, aesthetic and environment. The show consists of ten works from our upcoming auction in April, featuring high value items from Kazuo Shiraga, Lee Ufan, Yayoi Kusama, Chen Fei, Liu Wei and the attention-grabbing Takashi Murakami. It is an enjoyable experience for visitors to tour around this photo-friendly exhibition. And yes, we do allow picture-taking with the Murakami, which will likely be the most popular Instagram subject in Hong Kong!

The Artist’s Palette will be on view through 16 March.
