NEW YORK – The worlds of art, music and food collided at Sotheby’s on 5 May for Meat & Music, an event celebrating Sotheby’s upcoming Contemporary Art auctions. Surrounded by the work of Basquiat, Calder, Twombly and others, musician Brad Hale (aka Sombear) gave a haunting performance of his electric pop sounds. One song in particular had special resonance: the live premiere of “Adore Me,” inspired by Francis Bacon's Two Studies for a Self-Portrait, a highlight of Sotheby's upcoming Contemporary Art Evening Auction. Before the concert, guests snacked on pickled vegetables, deviled eggs and crudités with French onion dip canapés prepared by Jocelyn Guest and Erika Nakamura, the butcher duo behind April Bloomfield’s Salvation Burger. For dinner, the creative team turned out brilliant barbeque-inspired dishes, including smoked beef short ribs in a molasses vin, chicken hot dogs with picked jalapenos and pulled pork sliders with house made BBQ sauce.
