NEW YORK – 2014 is a milestone year in Sotheby’s Institute’s legacy. On the cusp of our 45th anniversary, we are continuing our steady exploration of new markets by expanding into mainland China and forging an innovative partnership with Beijing’s Tsinghua University, one of China’s most prestigious and influential academic institutions. This collaboration deepens our commitment to educating the next generation of art world professionals and is a logical extension of our sensitivity to global trends in art and its international markets. These markets have expanded exponentially over the past decade and China has been a critical force in this phenomenon, generating a level of economic activity and intellectual excitement rarely, if ever, observed in a cultural arena.
Celebrating the new partnership between Sotheby's Institute of Art and Beijing’s Tsinghua University.
Sotheby’s Institute of Art has been the most comprehensive and successful of those very few educational institutions to recognize the need to educate professionals who can skillfully navigate the symbiotic intersections between economics and artistic creativity. This partnership, in which courses will be taught by distinguished scholars and practitioners in Beijing as well as on the Institute's three campuses – London, New York and Los Angeles – will prepare that new generation of professionals for entry into this global marketplace. It will prepare western students to understand Asian art and its markets while introducing Asian students to western methodologies, markets and art history.
This historic partnership opens an important and promising new chapter in the Institute’s history, and we invite you to join us on our journey.
David C. Levy, the President of Sotheby’s Institute of Art and President of the Cambridge Information Group (CIG) Education Group.
