NEW YORK – Last night at Sotheby’s New York, guests were united with works by the likes of Alexander Calder, Sam Francis and Andy Warhol in celebration of this week’s Contemporary Curated auction. One of the sale’s four curators, Helena Skarstedt, owner of Skarstedt Gallery and President of The American Friends of the Moderna Museet, kicked off the party with a tour of the auction’s accessibly priced lots – a portion of which will be sold to benefit Stockholm’s Moderna Museet. Completing the evening, Sherwin Thwaites, an upscale steel pan instrumentalist, filled our tenth-floor galleries with Caribbean-tinged jazz, as he played in front of Anish Kapoor’s White Dark VIII, the sale’s top lot.
