Examining one of Allen Jones iconic sculptures at Sotheby’s warehouse.

LONDON - I’ve just come back from Sotheby’s warehouse way out in west London, where I met with artist Allen Jones who was keen to come and see his table, chair and hat stand sculptures, which we’ll be offering as part of the Gunter Sachs’ collection in May.

Allen had not seen the works for over 40 years since Gunter Sachs invited him to go and see them installed in his St Moritz apartment, and it was amazing to hear the artist talk about these 1960s Pop Art icons, recalling their painstaking creation and the various people such as Zandra Rhodes who helped him with the clothing. It was fascinating and a real honour to be able to chat with him about making these incredible sculptures that have become icons of 20th century art.
