LONDON - Back at the Contemporary Art Society for another triumphant Annual Gala, something Sotheby’s has supported for the last few years. Called LEAP! this time, as ever there was a fancy dress – I loved the extraordinary Gothic theme of a couple of years ago – with circus inspired costumes worn by some 350 art world VIPs who enjoyed a spectacular evening of performances, clowning and high glamour.

Held at the old Farmiloe Building in Clerkenwell, 44 works were commissioned to be auctioned on the night, with works from internationally acclaimed artists – from Jim Lambie and Paul Noble through to Paula Rego and Bob and Roberta Smith – and newer talents installed throughout the space.

The enthusiasm for the pieces was immense and the auction raised over £270,000, an increase on last year’s figure of £240,000, which can be used for acquiring new purchases of arts. Attendees included CAS Trustee Sarah Elson and members of the LEAP! committee such as Valeria Napoleone and Anita Zabludowicz, together with the likes of Ed Vaizey MP, Bianca Jagger, Grayson Perry, Maureen Paley, Nicholas Logsdail, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Gavin Turk, Kathy Lette, Scott Mead and Julian Treger.
