Our timed online salewill take place from 18 through 30 August and will feature 32 decadent jewels by Tony Duquette. Duquette’s extraordinary oeuvre encompassed theatrical costume, sets for the stage and screen, interiors and, of course, jewelry. Discovered by international style guru Elsie de Wolfe in the late 1930s, Duquette proved to be a true visionary, unorthodox in his combining of periods, materials and colors. His famed career included a Tony Award for Costume Design (the original Broadway production of Camelot) and a solo exhibition at the Louvre in Paris (the first American artist to be so honored). While creating fantastical sets and costumes for MGM, Duquette maintained an impressive list of private clients like Greta Garbo, J. Paul Getty, the Duchess of Windsor and, most notably, the interiors of an Irish castle for Elizabeth Arden.
Duquette’s jewels, like his interiors, are distinguished by his daring use of color and volume. Collier-style necklaces, wide bracelets of gargantuan gems, cocktail rings for every occasion and earrings accented by gilded sunbursts require (or inspire) confidence and style in the wearer.
