The cover of the catalogue for our upcoming Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels sale in Geneva on 17 May is graced by this spectacular demi-parure by Van Cleef & Arpels (Lot 493), which is truly a magnificent jewel in every sense of the word.
VERY IMPORTANT AND UNIQUE GEM SET AND DIAMOND DEMI-PARURE, VAN CLEEF & ARPELS, 1960S.
It is one of the finest examples of the highly chromatic jewellery produced by VCA in the late 1960s. Comprising emeralds, rubies, diamonds and pearls, the necklace takes the form of a traditional Indian 'Thali' collar. The necklace supports a detachable pendant which can cleverly also be worn as a brooch.
When I discussed the necklace with some fashionable women over lunch the other day, they envisioned this being worn over a very simple black outfit - maybe a roll neck sweater in winter or a sleeveless dress in summer – perhaps with red shoes or a clutch to accent the rubies.
This statement necklace is very fashionable at the moment. High street stores are teaming with multi-row collared necklaces such as this one, but isn’t it always better to have the original?
The Magnificient Jewels and Noble Jewels sale is in Geneva on 17 May.
