Sotheby’s First-Ever Charity Auction in Riyadh

By Roxane Zand

It was a great honour for Sotheby’s to be invited to conduct the first ever charity auction in Riyadh on behalf of the Al Faisal University.

Auctioned masterfully by Lord Poltimore, the seven works painted by the distinguished governor of Makkah Province, HRH Prince Khalid bin Faisal Al Saud, raised a total of over 9.5 million Rial.

SOTHEBY’S LORD POLTIMORE LED THE AUCTION

Prince Khalid is the third son of King Faisal and the auction was held in the King’s old palace which has been extensively restored and brought back to its former elegance.

Sotheby’s also raised an additional 100,000 Rial for the auctioneer’s silver gavel which was used on the night for this prestigious white glove event.

THE EVENT WAS HOSTED IN THE BEAUTIFULLY-RESTORED OLD PALACE IN RIYADH

The event was a lavish and glittering banquet, bearing testimony to the Saudi commitment to tradition and ceremony.

We hope to see many more engagements with the growing art and culture scene in that region.
