LONDON - If you haven’t been to Azerbaijan, a new show in town will definitely make you want to go! Last night the European Azerbaijan Society Photography Competition at La Galleria gave a National Geographic-style perspective on this fascinating region, which combines ancient cultures and cutting-edge growth. Baku has become something of a destination for the cognoscenti, and Azeri culture is a fast-growing field of interest for both historians and entrepreneurs. Judges Henry Dallal and Caroline Metcalfe must have had a difficult time selecting from rich pickings – a total of 750 photographs from more than 150 photographers! The three winners were announced at the exhibition opening and a total of 100 images were exhibited. Azerbaijan through the Lens will tour Europe during late 2012, with an accompanying exhibition catalogue. To pick a favourite work would be hard, but the winning entry was especially expressive, while the images of Lahij were heavily-scented with the feel of its location.
