NEW YORK - A recent employee satisfaction survey at Sotheby’s revealed that an overwhelming majority enjoys their job because of the people with whom they work. The truth of this was driven home for me during a Boardroom dinner I co-hosted last week at our York Avenue headquarters. With seamless efficiency Jackie Carr and Masako Shiba orchestrated a seated dinner for 25 which we arranged together long distance and at short notice!
No smaller is the pleasure of working globally with our international and nimble-footed clientele, who will readily attend a dinner in New York even if they live in L.A. Co-host Henry Howard-Sneyd and I were therefore thrilled to welcome a diverse and distinguished group of guests who take an interest in a variety of our sales categories. Collectors of Islamic art, lovers of international contemporary, cultural patrons, museum and freelance curators came together to talk about exciting initiatives in the Middle East and North African-related world.
Dr. Layla Diba, Mrs. Shahbazi and Mrs. Maryam Ansary.
Sotheby’s specialists Erica Barrish and Aileen Agopian led an excellent tour of our mid-season contemporary sale preview. Melissa Chiu of Asia Society made an eloquent after-dinner speech about her upcoming Modern Iranian Masters scheduled for Sept 2013 - in the presence of its curators Drs. Feri Daftary and Layla Diba. Dr Sheila Canby of the Met and Jay Levenson of MoMA represented the other key institutions with extensive commitments to art of the Middle East and North African region.
