FIAC: More Than Just an Art Fair

By Anne-Helene Decaux

PARIS - The art world once again descended on Paris this year for the annual FIAC international art fair. Anne-Helene Decaux, Contemporary Art specialist at Sotheby’s in Paris was among the visitors and here she looks back on her highlights from this year’s event...

FIAC is more than just a fair. It’s a week-long voyage, punctuated by events taking place all over Paris. This year, the journey took us first to the Jardin des Tuileries where an impressive 1949 Jean Prouvé building was installed in the middle of the garden.

Across the rue de Rivoli was another stunning example of monumental artworks mastery: the Ugo Rondinone installation Place Vendôme which explored the notions of time and space, the forces of materials and the power of nature within the artifice of art.

This year it was as if the whole city had been taken over by the ever-growing Fiac Hors les murs programme. The Petit Palais, opposite the Grand Palais was converted into a contemporary art venue for the first time, assembling around 30 artworks like a mini Art Basel Unlimited.
