PARIS – This April, Sotheby’s Paris will offer works from Bernard Boutet de Monvel’s hôtel particulier and Parisian studio in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Boutet de Monvel was a man whose elegance fascinated his peers – the American press even described him as "the handsomest man in Europe.” A painter, engraver, sculptor, decorator and illustrator forVogue and Harper’s Bazaar, Boutet de Monvel became one of the favourite portraitists of the Café Society. With his unrivalled aesthetic and attention to detail, Boutet de Monvel depicted his subjects in a style close to hyperrealism.
