The present lots offer a great overview of the collection, with works spanning from Arte Povera to the Young British Artists. With its genre-defying nature, it encompasses an outstanding selection of works that reflect the collector’s keen judgement and unencumbered approach to collecting. Starting with an important work from Sarah Lucas, which encapsulates the artist’s original explorations of unorthodox materials, the present group also includes an iconic history photograph by Cindy Sherman, one of Kippenberger’s infamous portraits of Picasso, an outstanding group of three works by Bernd & Hilla Becher, as well as excellent works by Rosemarie Trockel and Gilbert & George. With a text-based work by Martin Creed (who just had a major exhibition at the Hayward Gallery), the group covers many of the most forward-thinking artistic practices and trends of the past decades. This makes the Sender collection unique and unrivalled in its scope: forward-thinking and ambitious, in every way truly ahead of the curve.
