The animals and birds in this work are copied from sketches by Carl Borromäus Andreas Ruthart (Danzig 1630 - after 1703 L'Aquila) that appear as a series of studies, all painted on a single canvas (48 by 77.3 cm.), formerly in the collection of the Marchesi Strozzi and sold, London, Christies, 20 May 1993, lot 310.
In generally good condition aside from a horizontal tear through center of image; numerous small spots where paper has detached from panel, appearing as hard bubbled to surface. The top and bottom visible edges are painted wood, not paper. Under UV; uneven masking varnish.
