Philip Trevelyan, Julian Trevelyan: Picture Language, Lund Humphries, Farnham, 2013, illustrated p.117, (as The Potteries).
'[The] concentration of smoking kilns, like so many monstrous bottles, the canals, the gaping chasms from which the clay had been extracted - all these produced in my mind a ferment of ideas and I drew like one possessed.' (Julian Trevelyan, Indigo Days, Macgibbon & Kee, London, 1957, p.87)
Not viewed out of the frame. The sheet appears to be affixed to the backing board in places, but does not appear to be laid down. The sheet undulates slightly but otherwise appears sound. The upper edge of the sheet is slightly uneven, possibly as a result of having been taken from the artist's sketchbook. There is some very minor wear around the edges of the work, and there are a few light handling marks to the sheet. There are some extremely tiny spots of foxing, only visible upon very close inspection, and there is some light surface dirt and some discolouration towards the edges of the work. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in good overall condition.
The work is float mounted and presented in a simple gilt frame, held behind glass.
