Catalogue Note

Mariolina Olivera, in her 1990 monograph Faustino Bocchi e l'arte di figurar pigmei, was the first to isolate a group of works by this master, Maestro dell Fertilità dell' Uovo, which she grouped around his eponymous work, entitled La fertilità dell' Uovo (The Fertility of the Egg) in the collection of the Milwaukee Art Museum.  When the present works were sold at auction in Milan (see Provenance below), they had further inscriptions that have subsequently been covered over.
